This is the first installment in a project I’ve begun to collect photography portraying a typographic identity of Saint Louis. Washington Avenue has a multitude of architecture that’s in various stages of development. Historic buildings and new businesses tenuously intermingle in a display of contemporary signage and century-old architecture. The street is an amalgam of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, loft living, grocers, high fashion and more. In my eyes, it is words, signs and type. Enjoy.

This is beautiful, thanks for the memories. I think the abundance of quality signage (for which typography is obviously key) builds on the architecture of Wash Ave to bring a cosmopolitan feel far too rare in the midwest.
A semantic quibble though: http://fontfeed.com/archives/font-or-typeface/
Nice idea, maybe you should wonder off of Washington Ave before you call this project complete.
@Hans,
You’re quite welcome! Stay tuned for more. Wash Ave alone is a pretty narrow representation of St. Louis’ Type ID.
@Marc,
Thanks for the feedback. Washington Avenue is the first location in the series. I plan on creating a full identity of St. Louis represented in type from many areas.
Keep doing this. I’m not impressed by what you’ve done so far, but I like the idea. Please don’t stop. I can’t stress that enough. I don’t want you to stop, but these photos are kinda flat. I’m not a photographer. I have no advice. It’s just what I see when I look at these.
Thank you for the encouragement. Because these are shot with an iPhone camera, I’m sorta bound by the device. The images might not get any less “flat,” but I’ll focus more on the overall composition when trying to capture typographic samples.
